Free Tickets to Sept. 28 Duke Football Game

Durham, NC - Hearing the cheers of a crowd is nothing new for Devin Wickward when he plays football with his local athletic association around the Triangle. But there's something special about doing cheering of his own, like when he watched Duke's football team with his family during last year's Employee Kickoff Celebration.

Along with his older brother, sister, father and mom, who works at Duke, Devin watched from the stands as Duke beat Florida International University to begin last year's football season.

"I really liked getting to hang out with my family while watching the game, because I learned how to play better from seeing the Duke players," said Devin, 12. "I paid attention to the players' strides when they ran and learned to go faster and get more running power."

The Wickwards will be back at this year's Duke football Employee Kickoff Celebration, which offers staff and faculty free tickets to see the Blue Devils play Troy University on Sept. 28. Employees can begin request up to four free tickets to the game online. Last year, Duke faculty and staff claimed 9,330 tickets and helped fill Wallace Wade Stadium with just over 31,100 fans.

The Blue Devils are coming off a 6-7 season that included the team's first trip to a bowl game in nearly 20 years. The team also averaged 40 points a game at home.

"We've seen great progress in the football program in recent years, which raises the excitement of the Employee Kickoff as a chance for Duke to celebrate our employees and our football team," said Kyle Cavanaugh, vice president for administration. "As one of the only events that brings our entire community and their families together, this is a special opportunity to show our Duke spirit."

Pre-game festivities, including music, inflatable games, face painting and a catered meal, will start three hours prior to kickoff at Krzyzewskiville outside Card Gymnasium. Game time will be determined closer to game day.

As part of game day festivities, fans can cheer on the Blue Devils as the team walks through "Blue Devil Alley" on its way into Wallace Wade Stadium. During halftime, Duke will also take a moment to honor the 50th anniversary of black undergraduate integration. The event, sponsored by Duke Athletics and Human Resources, also includes fireworks.

"We like to dress up and paint our faces so we can be the football version of a Cameron Crazie," said Devin's mom, Cathy Wickward, quality program coordinator at the Duke Clinical Research Institute. "It's a great opportunity for the family to have a fun activity to do together, get excited and engage with Duke football."

Looking for a new Android mobile phone

What is actually going on with your phone? Maybe you don't actually need a new phone per se but a root and new ROM? I say this because my Nexus was acting weird and I thought it was time for a new one but then I ulocked/rooted it and installed a new ROM and I've not had any issues.

?

But, if you are dead set on a new phone I'd say the Samsung Note 2. I wanted the S4 but after messing around with one in the store I decided the OS that is on it is too..."heavy", as in it's too slow and feels clunky whereas the Note 2 feels much smoother and faster.

?

Everything man. Battery, screen, slow as a snail. I just want to get rid of it.

?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is ace...but it's too expensive for me. It's around ?580 in Malta. Still, I don't mind good suggestions because perhaps I may find the phone much cheaper on ebay.co.uk for example.

?

?

What's the prices of the Nexus phones over there?

Websites of what phones are available for you in your prices?

?

Asus Google Nexus 7 between ?250 - ?300 (do you want me to convert to $?). Samsung Nexus (didn't know there were 2 different Nexus) are between ?500 and ?600.

?

Some websites (not sure if you can view prices in all of them):

?

http://www.phonebox....roducts/mobiles

http://www.cellulart....com/index.php/

http://www.directvis...main_page=index (cheapest in Malta but you have to have a login to view prices)

?

To give you an idea of the prices from the cheapest place:

?

HTC One X 32GB -? ?400

?

HTC Evo 3D - ?380

?

Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250 - ?350

?

(Too expensive)

?

Cheaper ones within my budget:

?

HTC Desire V Duos - ?280

?

HTC Sensation XE - ?275

?

Htc desire X - ?260

?

HTC ONE V - ?215

?

Although I could try and find them cheaper from ebay.

?

Thank you.

Border Patrol Union: Drug Cartels Have 'Representatives' in 2,000 U.S. Cities

(CNSNews.com) ? In a July 28 letter addressed to ?fellow Americans,? the union of former Border Patrol agents called for Congress to deny amnesty to illegal aliens and cited ?transnational criminal businesses? that have ?representatives? in 2,000 American cities.

?Transnational criminal enterprises have annually invested millions of dollars to create and staff international drug and human smuggling networks inside the United States; thus it is no surprise that they continue to accelerate their efforts to get trusted representatives in place as a means to guarantee continued success,? the letter, distributed via email by Zach Taylor, chairman of National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers, Inc., stated.

?We must never lose sight of the fact that the United States is the market place for the bulk of transnational criminal businesses engaged in human trafficking and the smuggling, distribution and sale of illegal drugs,? the letter, signed by former agents for the U.S., Canada, Southwest and U.S./Mexico border chapters, stated. ?Organized crime on this scale we are speaking about cannot exist without political protection.

?Most heroin, cocaine, meth, and marijuana marketed in the United States is produced outside of our country, and then smuggled into the United States,? the letter stated. ?The placement of trusted foreign employees inside the United States is imperative to insure success in continuing to supply the demand, and returning the profits to the foreign organization.

?Members of these vicious transnational crime syndicates are already well established in more than 2,000 American cities and their numbers are increasing as networks expand and demands accelerate,? the letter stated. ?These transnational criminals present a real and present danger to all Americans, and they live among us.?

The organization stated in the letter that ?sanctuary cities? that allow criminal illegal aliens to live and work with impunity are partly to blame for the U.S. criminal network and urged Congress not to grant amnesty to the estimated 11 million people who are in the country illegally.

?Sanctuary cities established throughout the United States discourage even the most basic law enforcement initiatives within their boundaries against these predatory criminals,? the letter stated. ?Encouraged by Congress and a disinterested mainstream news media, these havens deny the American public their constitutional right to national security and public safety while providing relative safety for dangerous foreign criminals.

?Congress must abandon their focus on rewarding illegal behavior for millions of persons by the grant of amnesty in favor of protecting American citizens who suffer daily at the hands of these seasoned criminals,? the letter stated. ?To do otherwise makes a mockery of our laws, and encourages countless millions more from around the globe to do the same.

?Transnational organized crime nationwide has flourished under these conditions,? the letter concluded.

Tunisia's ruling party says won't remove prime minister

By Tarek Amara and Erika Solomon

TUNIS (Reuters) - The head of Tunisia's ruling Islamist party on Thursday refused to remove the prime minister from his post, hardening its stance toward the secular opposition's demand that the government be dissolved.

Earlier this week, leaders from the Ennahda party, which is facing mounting pressure even from its coalition partners, said they were willing to consider creating a new unity government to help ease the political crisis.

Tensions have been rising in Tunisia since the assassination last week of a leftist politician, the second to be slain in six months. The unrest risks disrupting a political transition that began after Tunisians toppled an autocratic president in 2011 and sparked an "Arab Spring" of revolts across the region.

The education minister resigned yesterday and several others threatened to do the same. Ennahda's junior coalition partner, the secular Ettakatol party, is threatening to withdraw if a unity government is not formed.

Ennahda supporters had shown some flexibility on the leadership controversy, but stood firm against the opposition's second demand to dissolve the transitional Constituent Assembly, now weeks away from finishing a draft of a new constitution.

"We are open to new deals ... But the Constituent Assembly is a red line, and we call on all members to return back to their work and complete the constitution," Ennahda party chief Rachid Ghannouchi told the local Mosaique radio station.

"We are holding firm to Ali Larayedh as head of the government."

A series of talks on Thursday between the government and the country's powerful union federation, as well as with the opposition Republican Party, appeared to signal an attempt at detente. Instead, both sides are escalating the face-off, calling for rival mass protests this weekend.

Once upheld as a model of transition among troubled Arab uprisings, Tunisia now risks being plunged into political turmoil and broader instability.

Two days ago, militants ambushed and killed eight soldiers near the Algerian border and two improvised bombs have been set off in Tunis, the first time the capital has seen such attacks, although no one was hurt.

GROWING PROTESTS

In Tunis, more than 70 lawmakers from the Assembly stopped working and started a sit-in outside the building that has drawn large nightly demonstrations joined by thousands of protesters.

A rival pro-government protest across the square has also drawn sizeable crowds, but on a smaller scale.

Many Tunisians have joined the opposition rallies out of frustration at continued economic stagnation and the country's growing security problems.

Others are angry that the constitution, which the government promised within a year of the Assembly's creation, is now eight months late.

The government was in talks on Thursday with the powerful Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), which is mediating for a compromise to bring a new government of technocrats to power.

The UGTT has opposed dissolving the Assembly outright, instead proposing a mechanism to speed up the body's timetable for finishing the constitution and a new election law.

The minister of public affairs, Khalil Zaouia, said the talks were "positive" but gave few other details.
